Your pets will feel loved, even when you can’t be there.
After decades of teaching high school, I have retired to embrace my other love - being with animals. I am certified as a Dog Trainer, Dog Walker, Pet Sitter, and Zookeeper Assistant. I am a member of Professional United Pet Sitters (PUPS) and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers International (APDTI). I'm insured by Pet Care Insurance.
I grew up with a lovable mutt, and I can't imagine ever not having a couple of pups. I've been a pet mom of dogs and cats for more than 25 years, and they are my kids, my family. When I was growing up, I also had hamsters, mice, and a rat. I love animals of ALL kinds.
I will definitely love your babies like my own. I'm looking forward to meeting you and your precious pets. :)
These are various snippets of training sessions.
One of the important early lessons is helping pet owners learn how to communicate with their dog.
Some people have a difficult time handling a dog's energy and behaviors. During our 2nd lesson, the young man was finally able to pet the dog while she was calm.
Start by getting your pup used to the leash, even before they can walk outside. Attaching the leash to the front of the harness and holding the leash with two hands will give you safe control in case your pup lunges at a squirrel or other distraction.
Puppy play is essential to their socialization/development. I always make sure the pups are all comfortable and safe.
Getting your pup to come when they are distracted can be challenging. Find non-verbals to get their attention before giving them the cue.
Introducing a new dog can be rough. Hopper, the small terrier, was fearful and aggressively resource guarding everything and every one. Through a slow process of many steps, he finally played with Cody. This process was challenging, but it only took two days.
Here, you can see that Hopper has a clear choice to jump up to the top of the couch, but he is choosing to play. Also, Cody could jump onto the sofa, but he understands that Hopper feels more comfortable being elevated because he is so much smaller than Cody.
